When it comes to splitting the bill, in reality poor and middle-class people tend to split the bill. Unless you’re rich, the guy will just pay—but even then, rich guys will date rich women, and rich women will date rich guys. A rich person wouldn’t be caught dead with someone who’s middle class. No rich guy would date a woman who comes from a middle-class family, and vice versa. So when it comes to splitting the bill, it’s mostly for poor people.
Super weird take.
You think people only date or have relationships within specific economic classes? Ooof.
Hello and welcome to this take, you will see it and similar many, many times from now on - you can rely on our good friend PixelNomad for that.

A millionaire Heiress isn’t going to date the pizza guy who comes from a working class or middle class family
The millionaire heir isn’t going to date the Starbucks Barista who comes from a working class or middle class family.
Lana del Rey married the alligator hunting guy. So there’s that.
There are lots of millionaires that have dated and married people of lower economic classes.
There’s more reasons than just money to split the bill.
I always insisted on splitting the bill on first dates. Sometimes a man would pay the bill behind my back after I said I wanted to split it. I would not date those men again.
So it can be a filter, too.
when you really think about it, since there are really so few rich people, you start to realize you don’t personally know any rich people, and you may have never even met a rich person, and then you realize everything in your life is for poor (i.e. not-rich) people
EDIT:
- roads
- grocery stores
- movie theaters
- gas stations
- libraries
- hospitals
- water treatment facilities
- sports stadiums
everything is built by us and used by us - rich people have their own doctors, live on their own compounds, hire their own chefs, and transport themselves mostly by private jets, etc. - they don’t wait in line for TSA, they don’t cook their own meals, they don’t drive places, etc.
on the flip side, you also start to realize how wealth and power has influenced the creation of the society you live in, like how US colonial food culture was influenced by major agricultural trusts, how drinking at bars became one of the only “third places”, or how US cities were destroyed by parking requirements under the influence of the auto industry
Yeah i question OPs definition of rich people because it sounds eerily similar to incel “Chad/Stacy alpha/beta wouldn’t date…”
The truly wealthy 0.1% probably wouldn’t care who pays the bill because it’s less than pocket change to them. The rest might split it or splurge and pay for their date depending on how far into the relationship they are.
OP is definitely wrong about rich people not dating middle class people or poor people, etc. - rich people are sorta immune to giving a shit, they are insulated. Aristocrats may have been forced to marry strategically rather than for love, but that’s not really about being rich per se.
Maybe some middle-upper-class people try to emulate aristocratic norms about not mingling that way, tbh I feel like the middle class in general is all about proving they aren’t poor, it’s ironically very typical of poor culture to work so hard to not seem poor - rich people aren’t like that and even try to intentionally blend in around others and not show their wealth.

Most upper-class elites date other people from upper-class elite families. The only exception might be ‘new rich’ people, like rich athletes, singers, actresses, actors, and models. For example, a man or woman from a very wealthy family might date a rich Hollywood actor who comes from a middle-class family, but they wouldn’t date a ‘regular’ person.
You see this all the time: Nicola Peltz’s dad is a billionaire, and she’s married to David Beckham’s son. David Beckham is worth half a billion dollars. There is no way a millionaire heir or heiress is going to date someone middle class. The idea that ‘star-crossed lovers’ fall in love is just a trope in TV and movies.

Matt Damon married Luciana Barroso, she was a bartender.
When rich people dine, they bill it to the shareholders.
This is funny because the whole concept of going to a restaurant (or anywhere else) on a date is a modern concept that didn’t exist before car culture.
So something that didn’t exist before like 1947 is now seen by the manosphere-brained to be a biological imperative.
How many times is this going to be discussed?
My rule even when I had no money was if I invited you out I paid it doesn’t matter if romantic or just friendly with the guys
I’m broke as fuck, and I rarely split a bill.
