I’ve got some white t-shirts that have graphic prints on the front, that are stained in the armpits. I was wondering if I could bleach just the armpits of the shirt? I was thinking if I rinsed the bleach off the pits before washing it wouldn’t damage the rest of the shirt, but I’m not sure if there’s a better way of dealing with pit stains. Thanks in advance.
Shirts are cotton if it matters
Take a small cooler. Fill it with very hot water. Add one cup powder oxi clean and one cup powder detergent. Must be powder. Fully submerge shirt(s) and let sit 24 hours.
Next day take out clothes wring out extra water and put in washing machine. In the bottom of the machine or in detergent dispenser put powder detergent. On top of clothes and not touching detergent put 1/4 cup ammonia.
Wash and rinse. Good as new.
Baking soda and peroxide, OR Oxygen Bleach (Oxiclean) should be just fine for this. Just soak the affected areas for 15m on a solution of whichever, and you should see it cleaner.
If it’s been permeated from caking agent like deodorant, you may need to boil it. Look into “Laundry Stripping” as well.
Thanks I’ll give laundry stripping a look. It is from aluminum based deodorants, which I recently switched away from so I’m trying to bring some of my shirts back to life since it hopefully won’t be such a problem anymore
- Scrub and soak with vinegar and baking soda, then send through the wash
- Look into blueing liquid; follow the instructions
- in the future, try to wash or at least thoroughly rinse very sweat-stained shirts fairly quickly instead of letting it dry and set in - you can often head it off if you are careful about that
- consider finding a more effective anti perspirant
Thank you I’ll look into blueing liquid if the vinegar and baking soda don’t work. And I did recently switch to aluminum free deodorant so hoping that will be the end of the yellow pits
Can’t vouch for any of the methods here, but I have heard the baking soda trick before. Hope this is of help: How to get rid of deodorant stains
Thanks this is perfect I’ll give some of these a try
