I don’t remember a bribe, but it’s a good movie.
This is basically Tommy Carcetti’s arc from The Wire. It’s one of the storylines on the 3rd(?) season
Carcetti didn’t take a bribe nor did he ever bribe anyone. There was the shady shit with Clay Davis extorting Carcetti, but it is clear tht Carcetti didn’t play.
Carcetti did become a slime ball in office but that was really more hurting the city to protect his political career.
Agreed with all that. But they show his entire run including the backroom dealings like Clay Davis, so still seems pretty close.
But it’s also been a good while since I saw it.
Pretty sure that happens in that one where Chris Rock becomes president, but it’s been a long ass time since I saw it. Don’t even remember the name… First Man or something like that?

What good is bribing a candidate? And by bribe do you mean blackmail?
I could picture an organization bankrolling a candidate in exchange for political favours when they win.
But yeah, usually the bribery comes after the election
We just call that a donation. And it goes through a PAC and it’s legal. The supreme Court has removed all the guard rails so unlimited donations and direct coordination with a PAC is now possible.
Yeah, the situation’s not great
Bribery is also already legal through lobbying. That doesn’t make it right, but what are you and I going to do about it?
Politicians don’t get envelopes full of cash anymore, they have PACs run campaign ads in exchange for support on policies they never explicitly ask for.
I suspect The Ides of March has what you are looking for. The candidate didn’t get a bribe but there was a much more significant event that is shown.
