Okay so this kind of navigation:

Is called “breadcrumbs”, because, like with Hänsel & Gretel in the old Grimms’ Fairy Tales strewing breadcrumbs on their way into the forest, to be able to find the way back, it can help you navigate your way back home.

But Hänsel & Gretel only found their way back, when they used white pebbles… the day they used breadcrumbs, birds ate the crumbs and so the siblings get lost in the woods until they find the witches cottage.

Breadcrumbs is how you DON’T successfully navigate your way back. Breadcrumbs is how you fall into the hands of some grubby old cannibal lady.

“Leaving a trail of breadcrumbs” has been a phase for a long time. That that’s what stuck, I suspect, because “breadcrumbs” is more specific and memorable than “pebbles,” or because the breadcrumbs would be noticed and followed by a hungry someone other than the person who put them there (unlike the pebbles, which are of no use to a random passer-by).

Holy shit, you call them Hansel & Gretel? Here in my country we call them the equiavalent of John and Mary

Well, the region i live has nice-ish weather i would say.

It’s sunny all year but 1 month in the year, what i don’t really enjoy is how dry the air always is - and also, as a massively exploited area by agribusiness the air quality sucks.

If you even consider moving to Brazil, go for the Jundiaí region or somewhere near São Paulo’s coasts and massive natural reserves - air is there is much better while also having great quality of life

Breadcrumbs can be hijacked, manipulated, reordered, edited, disabled, or deleted via Javacript very easily as long as scripting is enabled and active in the browser (like on virtually everyone’s browser except for the very few large penised giga-chads (or large vaginaed giga-fems in tech circles that disable all that entirely)).

So realistically, I think you’re completely wrong in this assertion. I think breadcrumbs are a lot like breadcrumbs if you look at breadcrumbs the way you’ve presented breadcrumbs.

But also, H & G were children. Their breadcrumb scheme was creative and clever by child standards, even if it did not quite work out.

  • If you can trust people for anything, you can trust them not to have actually read all of the source material and certainly for taking the wrong conclusion away from it.

Incidentally, it works the same way with the bible.

No way! I totally would of noticed if the Bible had a freaky old cannibal lady who lived in the forest!

Now I’m trying to remember if the Bible even has any forests…
