In short:
Luigi Mangione, the man accused of stalking and killing US health insurance CEO Brian Thompson is expected to plead guilty in a federal court case against him.
The move could lead to double jeopardy in a separate state case arising from the same alleged incident.

Mr Mangione is due in court on Friday, local time, for a hastily scheduled hearing in the federal case.
He should be sentenced to 30 days in jail. Then have that reduced to home arrest. Then if he completes his 30 days of home arrest they expunge his record.
Seems fair to me.

If he’s taking a plea deal, there won’t be a jury.

Why would someone the government hates be given the cushy treatment afforded to someone the government likes?
In January, US District Judge Margaret Garnett took the death penalty off the table but ruled that prosecutors could use items collected from Mr Mangione’s backpack during his arrest as evidence against him…
In June, Mr Mangione’s lawyers said they would pursue a psychiatric defence in the state case but then reversed course a day later. The defence, involving claims that he was suffering from extreme emotional disturbance at the time of the killing, is not allowed in federal court.
Rubbish ruling, rubbish rule.
We’re going to remove death from the options, but then also allow the rules to be completely broken in favor of the prosecution.
