For those curious about how this fork came to be, KnowYourMeme had a decent rundown: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/godot-engine-user-blocking-controversy-wokot

I’ve never heard of this before. Nice to have other variations. https://www.redotengine.org/ I wonder why they forked Godot. Also they don’t like to mention it at all it seems: https://docs.redotengine.org/en/stable/about/introduction only at the bottom as

© Copyright 2024-present by the Redot community, modified from an original work by Juan Linietsky, Ariel Manzur and the Godot community (CC BY 3.0).

If I were a game developer, I would probably stick to Godot unless there is a really good reason for relying on this fork. One has to trust them fully.

What was wrong with working with Godot that made them want to fork?

I am a godot user and it seems to me that Godot it pretty much under heavy development and so…

Just some Foss drama, I stay away from that.

I guess forking is an easy way to benefit from others’ work.

I’m wondering if there is any game developer that chooses this fork knowing that it will likely not keep up with upstream features and fixes.

According to their readme, that Godot was maintrined by a few people mostly and they wanted to make a “true” open source experience by making the community maintainers
