Every time there is an incident it seems like there are hundreds of security.

I get that his main Secret service probably has dozens of people… But then there’s regular police and then military style people showing up and more under cover people and the it just keeps going

    Secret Service has 8000 employees alone.

    but they protect a lot more than just the president. they protect former presidents, families, and candidates for president. they are perform general security at the whitehouse.

    They also do investigative work in fraud, finance crime, and cyber crime and are frequently involved in federal and state casework for police investigations.

    The secret service is also in charge of investigating and prosecuting counterfeiters so they probably have hundreds or thousands of agents and most of them likely are never even in the same room as the president.

    There are something like 8,500 people just in the Secret Service alone. They do a lot more than just guard the president.

      That’s one way to look at it. On the other hand, more armed people around him would raise the chances of a negligent discharge or weapon malfunction (looking at you, Sig P320) that could make a celebration-worthy headline. Those are also individuals who could come to their senses, recognize the threat he poses to humanity and do something heroic.

      Obligatory acknowledgment that he’s not the entire problem, the martyr issue, and a dozen other reasons that it wouldn’t skip straight to “happily ever after”. I’d still make it a personal holiday for the rest of my life. Maybe even get my first/only tattoo with their name on an infrequently-displayed cheek.

    It is a lot and it isn’t just the secret service. The US Protective Service plays a role and of course parts of the US military.

    24 x 7 security for president and spouse , all family members and all their residences and work spaces.

    Now do that for the vice president.

    Also the US secret service has other missions as well, plus support staff.

    And educated guess is 4-5 K.
